Installing Red5 server with CometChat plugins

To install Red5 server with CometChat plugins on the Linux Systems, follow the steps listed below:

1. Install jdk1.7 and check whether it is installed successfully by executing the following command in the terminal:
java –version

2. Then go to /usr/local directory by executing the given command:
cd /usr/local

3. Now download CometChat’s Red5 server package ccred5 by executing the following command:
wget http://www.cometchat.com/extra/ccred5.tar.gz
Note: CometChat’s Red5 server package is developed using Red5 version 1.0.0RC1 and contains the server side files for the CometChat Plugins (AVChat AVBroadcast, Screenshare and Whiteboard plugins).

4. Run the given command to extract the downloaded ccred5 package:
tar -xzf ccred5.tar.gz

5. Then delete the tar file with the help of the following command:
rm ccred5.tar.gz

6. Now change directory and go to ccred5:
cd ccred5

7. chmod the red5.sh and red5-shutdown.sh files present in ccred5 to make them executable:
chmod +x red5.sh
chmod +x red5-shutdown.sh

8. Now start the Red5 server by executing the following commands:
cd /etc/init.d
wget http://www.cometchat.com/extra/red5
chmod +x red5
service red5 start

9. To test the Red5 server visit folllowing URL: http://<red5 server URL or IP>:5080
For Redhat CentOS Linux, you may have to allow access to the ports 843, 1935, 1936 5443, 5080, 8443, 8055, and 9999.
You can do this by adding the line given below in the file /etc/sysconfig/iptables before the COMMIT line:
-A INPUT -m state –state NEW -m tcp -p tcp –dport 843 -j ACCEPT. Repeat the above step for rest of the ports.
You can check the /etc/sysconfig/iptables file at http://www.cometchat.com/extra/iptables

10. Thus you have successfully installed Red5 server along with server side packages of CometChat plugins and now you can test all the plugins i.e AVChat, AVBroadcast, Screenshare and Whiteboard plugins on your site.

Configuring CometChat plugins on a server that has RED5 installed on it:

If you have RED5 up and running on your server, configure CometChat plugins by following the steps listed below:

* On Linux based systems:

1. Check whether the Red5 server is up and running by visiting the URL: http://<red5 server URL or IP>:5080

2. If the Red5 server is running successfully then go to to webapps directory of your Red5 installation. If RED5 is installed using SVN then in most of the cases the webapp directory is red5_.svn/dist/webapps

3. Download the sever side package for the required plugin by executing the following command:
wget http://www.cometchat.com/extra/ccred5plugins.tar.gz

4. Run the given command to extract the package: tar -xzf ccred5plugins.tar.gz

5. Then delete the tar file by executing the given command: rm ccred5plugins.tar.gz

6. Finally restart the Red5 server.

7. Thus you have successfully configured Red5 server with server side packages of CometChat plugins on your Linux systems and now you can test all the plugins i.e AVChat, AVBroadcast, Screenshare and Whiteboard plugins on your site.

On Windows server:

1. If you do not have Red5 on your server, install jdk1.7and Red5 1.0.0RC1

2. Check whether the Red5 server is up and running by visiting the URL: http://<red5 server URL or IP>:5080

3. If the Red5 server is running successfully then download the sever side package from the following link: http://www.cometchat.com/extra/ccred5plugins.zip

4. Unzip the ccred5plugins.zip file and move the avchat, screenshare and whiteboard folders to webapps folder of Red5 installation.

5. Finally restart the Red5 server.

6. Thus you have successfully configured Red5 server with server side packages of CometChat plugins on your Windows server and now you can test all the plugins i.e AVChat, AVBroadcast, Screenshare and Whiteboard plugins on your site.
